New router

Category: IT RelatedRory Primrose @ 02:41

I have been having problems with my router (a Netgear DG834) for the last few months. A few weeks ago, it would drop off the net about once a week, requiring a reboot or hard reset to get it going again. It started to get a lot worse with it falling off the net too many times to count each day. After reading lots of forums, I have invested in a Billion BiPAC 7404VGPM from Clearnet Communications.

From first impressions (and contrary to the only two negative forum posts about Billion routers I could find), the setup was quite smooth. After connecting the device and entering my ADSL username and password, it was connected quicker than I could click (the netgear after a reset might take up to five minutes to connect). I also found setting up the virtual servers and security quite easy. The only outstanding problem is wireless connectivity, but with more wireless networks popping up around my house, I suspect this will be resolved with changing channels. At this stage, I am really impressed.
