Two domains are better than one, but only when they both work

Category: Personal — Rory Primrose @ 11:16

I posted recently about having a new domain name for the site. The set up was that the new domain www.neovolve.com would be a mirror for the original www.highertendencies.com domain. Due to the increasingly unreliable uptime by the host of the original domain, I have changed this around so that the new domain is the primary source for the site and the original domain is now the mirror.

I was hoping that I could effectively split the traffic between the servers as much as possible, but when the original primary domain is not available (probably not more than 50% uptime over the last week), there is no point it being the primary server. Even if the hosting of the new domain provides a slower service at peak usage, it should still be much more reliable than the original domain. The new server only hosts this site whereas the original host server hosts a large number of sites and databases. Because of this, the new server may even provide a faster response anyway.

Please update your aggregators and bookmarks to use the www.neovolve.com domain. The feed address to use will be http://neovolve.com/rss.aspx.
